Carlos Sainz makes it to SQ2 and will start from P15 in Silverstone Sprint
Friday, 3 July 2026: - Free Practice 1: P15, 1:31.684, 33 laps - Sprint Qualifying: P15, 1:30.197, 12 laps
Carlos Sainz was fifteenth in the Sprint Qualifying of the British GP after a session in which he made it past the cut in SQ1 and finished ahead of his teammate in SQ2.
The Williams F1 Team has introduced a new front wing for the FW48 just in time for one of the most demanding tracks of the season from an aerodynamic perspective, given the sheer number of high-speed corners.
His performance in the Sprint Qualifying session allowed him to beat both Haas in SQ1 (1:31.073) on the Medium tyre, which he used again in SQ2 as prescribed by the rules to set his fastest lap of the day (1:30.197).
QUOTES: "A small step forward this weekend, maybe smaller than we would have liked, with the new front wing - and it seems to be working well, helping us out-qualify both Haas cars. Unfortunately, we're still off the pace of the top 10, but we'll keep pushing. Today's lap was probably one of the best ones of the season, putting everything together, so I'll take that with me and see what we can do from here the rest of the weekend".
