Williams struggles in Qualifying, but Carlos Sainz seals a P15 for the Starting Grid of the British GP

Saturday, 4 July 2026:
- Sprint: P17, 17 laps
- Qualifying: P15, 1:30.623, 15 laps

  • Carlos Sainz made it back to Q2 and will start from fifteenth in the British GP, although once again it became obvious that there is an important performance gap to close in order to fight for better results.
  • The Williams race driver will repeat the starting position he had in the Sprint, in which he finished seventeenth after an energy deployment issue in his FW48.
  • In Qualifying, the Spanish race driver made the cut in Q1 by one tenth (1:30.562) to move to Q2, where he was the fastest Williams once again with a 1:30.623 lap that put him on the eighth row of the grid.

QUOTES:
"Our Sprint Race was nothing special, stuck behind a Haas and struggling with deployment. For Qualifying the wind picked up and our car was very sensitive to it, making it very challenging to drive and ultimately making us less competitive. I did some test items for the team and cross-car comparisons to see if we could find some performance, but it didn’t really worked and we are still struggling to find pace. For the race, we'll keep collecting learnings about this new front wing and the car. We’ll see what we can do tomorrow and the target will be to maximize everything."
