Carlos Sainz, happy at the end of Week 1 of winter testing at Barcelona

He completes 60 laps in half a day and feels positive with the car

Montmelo, March 1st 2018.- The first week of the 2018 Formula 1 preseason came to an end today at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. After three days of bad weather, Carlos Sainz could work as usual behind the wheel of his Renault R.S.18.

The track was wet throughout the morning, but it had already dried by the time that Carlos hopped on his car, at 3:50pm. The Spaniard was able to complete 60 laps without any reliability issues. He felt positive as the chequered flag appeared at 5:00pm, although it is still early days to give any conclusions on the performance of the car.

At the end of the day, he felt satisfied with his first proper experience with the R.S.18. “I am happy, because we could run much more than in the previous days and we could get to know the car. We focused on the long-runs on medium tyres. It took quite a few laps to warm it up properly, but its performance was very stable once it reached the optimum temperature. We were able to test a few thinks. We still have a lot of work to do, of course, but the fact that we were able to warm-up the tyre as we wanted was already a positive sign”, he said.

“I’m looking forward to next week, because I see potential in the car and I really want to set it up to my taste to check it. We saw some positive signs, and now I just need to feel 100% comfortable with more track-time”.

This week, Carlos also tested the two different helmet liveries he has brought for the new year. He will soon decide which one he keeps for the season. “I tested them both during the week, but I haven’t decided yet. I hope my followers give me their opinion. With their help it will be easier to take a decision”, he said.

Winter practice will continue next week, starting March 6th. You will be able to follow Carlos’ progresses via his Social Media channels and his official website, www.carlossainz.es.
