- Race: P5, 63 laps
- Carlos Sainz performed a solid recovery drive at the Emilia Romagna GP, where he made his way from eleventh to fifth at the chequered flag. The early stages of the race were compromised by the rain.
- The Ferrari driver passed four cars at the start, even though the visibility was very poor. He held on to the Intermediate tyre until Lap 28, when he pitted for Mediums after passing another car to put himself in sixth place.
- The race was red flagged on Lap 34 following a crash between two cars in the main straight. Carlos was up to fifth at that point.
- Carlos displayed a solid pace when the race was restarted and advanced momentarily to fourth, even though he was ultimately fifth at the line given that he was overtaken by the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton.
"Very solid race today. The conditions at the start were very tricky, with very little visibility, but I went for it and managed to make up quite a lot of positions at the start. Second race and first time in the wet with the car was an unknown situation for me, but taking risks and finding the limit paid off, despite losing race time with a couple of mistakes here and there. My pace was very strong on the wet and also very solid on the dry, so I’m happy with that. I was quite comfortable all along, and starting P11 with a P5 finish is encouraging. I just need to keep my head down and keep working in this direction because I think it is the correct one. Collecting solid points today was definitely good for the team and I am very pleased with the double points finish".
