Carlos Sainz set to start from twelfth in the Spanish GP

  • Carlos Sainz set the thirteenth fastest time on ever changing track conditions: 1:17.599
  • The Spaniard of McLaren was ninth after his first flying lap, but he didn’t manage to improve in his second try and missed Q3 in the end.
  • He is set to start tomorrow’s race from the twelfth place on the grid once all penalties are applied.

"Today it was a more difficult day than yesterday. We could already see in Free Practice 3 that everything was going to be very tight. Qualifying started well, but I felt less comfortable in the car as the session progressed. I had a snap at Turn 5 and I had to take many risks in the final sector to catch up, but I made a mistake".

"The good thing is that our race pace always tends to be better than in Qualifying, so not all is said yet. We know that it wasn't a perfect Saturday, but I trust this team and we will fight to score a better result tomorrow".
