The McLaren driver topped the standings
Montmelo, 27 February 2019.- Carlos Sainz completed today 130 laps at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in the sixth day of winter testing for the 2019 Formula 1 season. The Spaniard of McLaren covered over 605 kilometres, the equivalent to almost two race distances, testing different car set-ups and setting the fastest time of the day: 1:17.144.
Carlos completed the run plan, performing a wide variety of tests without any major reliability issues. At the halfway point of the day, Carlos had done 56 laps. In the afternoon session, despite a short stoppage, the Spaniard executed a race simulation before turning his attention into pit-stop practice and fine-tuning work for the MCL34.
"It’s been a good day of work. We managed to do a lot of laps again today and more or less a full race simulation. There are still a few niggles and stoppages that we wish we didn’t have, but every time we go out on track we’re a bit more reliable and we keep moving in the right direction. Overall, I’m happy that we made the most of the time on track today".
"The timesheets still aren’t important. We are only focused on our run plans and tests rather than wasting our energy on trying to calculate where we are at compared to the others. Once we see what everyone else brings in Australia we will be in a better position to compare our performance. For the moment, I will look back over these six days with my engineers, what I liked, what I didn’t like, and try to put together the best compromise for my last day in the car on Friday".
Lando Norris will be tomorrow at the wheel of the car to carry on with the testing plan of McLaren. Carlos will get back in action on Friday for the final day of preseason testing, the last winter practice before travelling to the Australian GP to kick-start the 2019 Formula 1 season.
