Three tenths short from the Top 10
Baku, June 24th 2017.- Carlos Sainz took prat in the third and final Free Practice session for the Azerbaijan GP, where he achieved the thirteenth fastest time and finished three tenths shy from the Top 10, but with a better feeling overall than yesterday.
With the track at 56 degrees, Carlos waited four minutes before hitting the track and performing a 12-lap run on set of Pirelli supersoft tyres. The Spaniard returned to the pits just one minute before crossing the halfway point of the session, on a provisional P8 and the only regret of the double-yellow flags he encountered in the first sector due to the fire on Jolyon Palmer’s Renault.
With 18 minutes to go, Carlos left the pits on another brand-new set of supersoft tyres. Although he improved his previous lap-times, he didn’t manage to improve in all three sectors. The Spaniard of Scuderia Toro Rosso clocked a 1’44”692 on the opening lap of his stint, which would last for 11 laps. Occasional yellow flags affected his pace at times, but it was enough to gather the information required for Qualifying.
Qualifying for the Azerbaijan GP will decide the starting order for the race. It will begin at 17:00 local time, 15:00 Spanish time. We will follow it live via Carlos’ official website www.carlosainz.es and our Twitter account @carlosainzinfo.
