Carlos Sainz makes it through every cut in Qatar Sprint Qualifying

Friday, 28 November 2025:
- Free Practice 1: P4, 1:21.404, 20 laps
-  Sprint Qualifying: P8, 1:20.542, 20 laps

  • Carlos Sainz has started the Qatar GP with the eighth fastest lap-time in Friday’s Sprint Qualifying, which will grant him a spot in the fourth row of the grid for tomorrow’s 19-lap Sprint.
  • The Williams race driver was the eighth fastest driver in SQ1 (1:21.438) and finished sixth in Q2 (1:21.172), always on the Medium tyre.
  • In SQ3, the Spanish race driver completed two flying laps on Softs: the first one (1:20.812) placed him on a provisional sixth place, but the FW47 usually struggles with the softer compounds and hence, despite improving in his final try (1:20.542), in the end he finished eighth.

QUOTES:
“It’s been a very positive day for us at a track where, on paper, we could have struggled. We chose an experimental set-up which we haven’t tried yet this year, and it seems to have paid off, so I’m happy with that. It’s encouraging to see both cars in SQ3 and, as usual, our car felt stronger on the harder compounds. There was less than a tenth between P4 and P8, so we’ll see what we can do tomorrow in the Sprint and later in qualifying!".
