Carlos Sainz to start fifth in Miami Sprint

Friday, 3 May 2024
- Free Practice 1: P3, 1:28.711, 24 laps
- Sprint Qualifying: P5, 1:28.103, 16 laps

  • Carlos Sainz will start from fifth place in the Sprint of the Miami GP after a challenging Qualifying where he didn’t feel completely comfortable in the car.
  • After moving through SQ1 (1:28.435) and SQ2 (1:28.262) on the Medium tyre, in SQ3 it was time to put on a set of Softs to go for a single flying lap.
  • Although he set his fastest time in SQ3 (1:28.103), a mistake in the braking zone of Turn 17 dropped him to fifth place.
  • Tomorrow, Carlos will try to comeback in the Sprint. He will also have more than three hours to finetune the set-up of his Ferrari SF-24 before the start of the Qualifying session for the Grand Prix.

QUOTES:
“It hasn’t been a great Friday. The feeling in the car changed between sessions and we struggled more during the Sprint Qualifying. The lap on the Soft tire however was coming together more or less ok but I went for it in turn 17 and made a costly mistake which dropped me to P5".

“Tomorrow we'll try to recover and then we have another chance to work on the car and turn it around for the Grand Prix Qualifying and the main race on Sunday".

COMING UP:

- Sprint: 12:00 local time (18:00 CEST)
