Carlos Sainz, ninth at the Styrian GP after an issue in pits when he was running fifth

Spielberg, 12th of July of 2020
- Race: P9, 70 laps

  •  Starting from third, Carlos was fifth and leader of the midfield up until Lap 33, when he pitted and lost five seconds after an issue with his rear left tyre.
  • The Spaniard of McLaren was stuck in traffic, which ultimately compromised his battery and tyre management, running out of rubber for the closing stages of the race.
  • He pitted again in the final laps to clinch the extra point of the fastest lap.

QUOTES:
"The key of today’s race was that pit-stop, which was slower than usual and put me in the middle of traffic. In order to recover I had to use too much my tyres and that compromised the second half of the Grand Prix. In a normal race we would have finished in fifth place, but I ran out of tyres and battery because I had to get passed slower cars after my pit-stop. We pitted again to go for the fastest lap, but we missed a P5 finish. We win and lose together, so we will fight again as a team to get back on track in Hungary”.
