Challenging Spanish GP for Carlos Sainz, compromised by front wing damage on Lap 1

Sunday, 1 June 2015:
- Race: P14, 66 laps

  • Carlos Sainz’s Spanish GP was compromised right at the start, where he was involved in an incident that ended up with damage to his front wing.
  • The evasive manoeuvre he had to perform cost him three places, so after Turn 1, the Williams race driver saw himself at the back of the grid.
  • The Spaniard pitted early on Lap 9 to change his front wing. By pitting so early, he undercut several cars and gained ground on his rivals.
  • Carlos maintained his position after the second stop, but a Safety-Car came out in the closing lap, and this led to an extra pit-stop.
  • This visit to the pits left him momentarily in sixteenth place, but the Spaniard passed Olivier Bearman and Esteban Ocon and crossed the finish line in fourteenth place.

QUOTES:
"It was a tough race for me and the team. We picked up front wing damage on the first lap, which made us lose a lot of race time, and struggled with engine overheating when following cars. In clean air the pace looked better but overall the weekend hasn’t been very positive, as expected. I want to thank all the fans for their incredible support the entire week and hopefully we’ll be back to better form in Canada".
