Challenging Spanish GP for Carlos Sainz, compromised by front wing damage on Lap 1
Sunday, 1 June 2015: - Race: P14, 66 laps
Carlos Sainzโs Spanish GP was compromised right at the start, where he was involved in an incident that ended up with damage to his front wing.
The evasive manoeuvre he had to perform cost him three places, so after Turn 1, the Williams race driver saw himself at the back of the grid.
The Spaniard pitted early on Lap 9 to change his front wing. By pitting so early, he undercut several cars and gained ground on his rivals.
Carlos maintained his position after the second stop, but a Safety-Car came out in the closing lap, and this led to an extra pit-stop.
This visit to the pits left him momentarily in sixteenth place, but the Spaniard passed Olivier Bearman and Esteban Ocon and crossed the finish line in fourteenth place.
QUOTES: "It was a tough race for me and the team. We picked up front wing damage on the first lap, which made us lose a lot of race time, and struggled with engine overheating when following cars. In clean air the pace looked better but overall the weekend hasnโt been very positive, as expected. I want to thank all the fans for their incredible support the entire week and hopefully weโll be back to better form in Canada".
COMING UP: Canadian GP, Circuit Gilles Villeneuve โ 13-15 May 2025
