- Race: P3, 57 laps
- Carlos Sainz put together a perfect weekend in Qatar, where he surpassed all expectations and clinched a third-place finish in a racetrack that in paper didn’t suit the strengths of his car.
- Seventh on the grid, the Williams race driver was off to a great start and passed two cars to move up to fifth in a track where overtaking was specially difficult.
- A Safety-Car on Lap 7 prompted a massive pit-stop window and Carlos used it to pass Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli to move up to fourth.
- The brilliant race pace that Carlos displayed throughout the second stint enabled him to stay in front of Lando Norris when the McLaren driver did his second and last pit stop. The Spanish driver resisted the attack of the World Championship leader to cross the line in third place and clinch the second podium of the season.
- The 15 points he has scored today take him up to ninth in the Drivers’ Championship and secure Williams’ fifth place in the Constructors’ title.
QUOTES:
"Extremely happy! We had a very strong start and from there we executed a perfect race with strategy, tyre management, pit stops and communication. By the end of the second stint, I saw Piastri struggled to overtake me on fresh tyres, and at that moment I realised we had to go for the podium. I was pushing to the limit of the car but 6 laps to the end something suddenly broke! I started losing a lot of lap time in sectors 1 and 3 but I managed to keep it together and bring it home for P3!".
"Today’s result is testament to the team’s hard work; I knew we were taking the right steps and, despite some difficult race weekends along the way, I had full confidence in what we are doing. I’m extremely proud of everyone, we deserve this P5 in the Constructor’s Championship, and I look forward to finishing the season on another high in Abu Dhabi! Let’s go!".
