Carlos Sainz finished fifteenth in a hectic Mexico GP marked by incidents throughout, from a red flag after Valtteri Bottas's crash to a Safety Car in the closing laps after Arvid Lindblad’s retirement.
The Williams race driver started from fifteenth place and focused on taking care of his tyres to make a one-stop strategy work, which could have worked in his favour because other cars pitted twice.
The Spanish driver was sixteenth after the red flag. He navigated multiple incidents on track and was up to fourteenth with five laps to go, although in the end he crossed the finish line in fifteenth place.
QUOTES:
“First of all, well done to Kimi. He has done a great job this season so congrats to him and his team".
"Regarding our Sunday, I had a good first half of the race switching to a one-stop strategy fairly early on. It was working well and we were on the way to maximising what we could today, but the restart was chaos and I lost some ground. We tried to fight back on the last stint but the balance went away from us and overheating worsened the situation. Overall, it’s been another tough weekend, but we’ll take as many learnings as we can from this week into Brazil and keep pushing for the races ahead”.
