- Race: P4, 53 laps
- Carlos Sainz was really close to reaching the podium of the Italian GP, a race in which he improved his starting position and took care of his tyres throughout to make his strategy work.
- Fifth on the starting grid, the Ferrari race driver overtook Mercedes’ George Russell in the opening lap and immediately started nurturing his Medium tyres to make a one-stop strategy possible.
- The Ferrari race driver did his first and only pit-stop on Lap 20, switching to a Hard compound that he ultimately took to the finish line. His pit-stop happened later than his rivals’, which translated into a loss in race time.
- Carlos moved up to second place when his rivals pitted. He then tried to hold back the McLarens, but their fresher tyres made the difference and the Spaniard crossed the finish line in fourth place.
QUOTES:
“First of all, congratulations to Charles and the entire team, including the people working in Maranello!! I'm really happy for all of them and the tifosi, it’s a well deserved win!! It was a shame I couldn't keep a podium position today. I think staying out and extending the first stint made me lose some race time and the train of tows at the front. From there it was difficult to make up time but the call to commit to a one-stop strategy was the right one and overall we should be happy that the car seems to work better. Let’s see in the upcoming races if we can keep up the good results".
