- Race: P13, 72 laps
- Carlos Sainz was on his way to seizing a big opportunity to score important points in the Dutch GP, but his hopes were cut short due to an incident on track with another car.
- The Williams race driver started from ninth and held on to his position through the first stint, ultimately moving up to eighth as Lewis Hamilton suffered a crash.
- On Lap 27, he went side-by-side around the outside of Turn 1 with Liam Lawson in an effort to fight for seventh place, but the RB driver opened his line and touched the Spaniard, who suffered a tyre puncture and was forced to stop in the pits.
- This additional stop sent him to the back of the pack. He was a lap down, but he still managed to recover to thirteenth place, although he could have finished in fifth place hadn’t in been for the incident, which on top of everything cost him a 10-second penalty.
QUOTES:
“It’s tough coming back after the summer break to another race like this. I’ve been on form all weekend so to be involved in such an incident, that ultimately ruined my race and cost points for the team, is incredibly frustrating. I was on the outside trying to put Liam off line for the upcoming corners, but there was plenty of space and I didn’t do anything strange. The penalty, as far as I’m concerned, is inexplicable. We’ll review it with the stewards to understand how this decision was reached. Monza is around the corner, so we’ll regroup, keep focused and keep pushing".
