Carlos Sainz, sixth in a Belgian GP with tricky strategies

Sunday, 28 July 2024
- Race: P6, 44 laps

  • Carlos Sainz scored eight points in the Belgian GP, where he finished in sixth place in a very open race strategy wise.
  • The Ferrari race driver started on the Hard tyre from the seventh spot on the grid. After a great start, he moved up one place and extended his first stint until Lap 20, having led seven laps after his rivals pitted.
  • The Spaniard switched then to the Medium tyre, which he nurtured carefully in the first few laps given that there was a chance he could go to the end with a single pit-stops.
  • Eight laps later, though, this option proved to be unviable and Carlos returned to the pits to put on a second set of Hard tyres, which carried him to the finish line.
  • Carlos was racing in eighth place after his first stop, but, with six laps to go, he managed to pass Checo Pérez to move up to seventh place. George Russell’s disqualification promoted the Ferrari race driver to sixth place.
  • Formula 1 will now start its summer break until August 23.

QUOTES:
"It was a difficult race. We decided to start on a different strategy from everyone around us. The start and the first stint were very good, but unfortunately, I think we didn't have enough pace to make it work to our advantage. It's been a challenging first half of the season for many different reasons, but I'm sure that after the summer break, we will come back stronger. Thank you, everyone, for your support. See you in Zandvoort".
