Carlos Sainz finishes on the podium of the Belgian GP

Sunday, 28 August 2022
-    Race: P3, 44 laps

  • Carlos started the Belgian GP from pole position, but he had to fight in order to finish on the podium due to the high race pace imposed today by both Red Bulls.
  • The Ferrari driver did a great start to hold on to the lead, but after successfully defending himself in a restart behind the safety-car his Soft tyres started to wear out rapidly.
  • The Spaniard served his first pit-stop on Lap 11 to switch to Medium tyres and later pitted again on Lap 25 to move on to the Hard compound.
  • Even though today he didn’t have the pace of his main rivals, Carlos managed to hold off George Russell in the final laps in order to get on the podium and top off a great race execution both from a personal standpoint and from a team perspective.

QUOTES:
“The car felt good today and we did our best, but our pace just wasn’t quick enough this weekend to hold on for the win. We executed a solid race from start to finish, with good pit stops and strategy calls, but it wasn’t enough to keep the Red Bulls behind as they simply had more pace. Time to analyze and prepare the next race in one week at Zandvoort”.
