- Race: P6, 55 laps
- Carlos Sainz, sixth in the Abu Dhabi GP, finishes the 2020 season in P6 of the Drivers’ Championship as he helps McLaren to achieve P3 in the Constructors’ standings.
- The Spaniard says goodbye to the Woking-based team with a controlled race, even though an early Safety-Car forced him to pit earlier than expected and prevented him from maximizing his Medium tyre.
- On the Hard tyre, he fought and passed on track both Ferraris to cross the line in sixth place and clinch the third place of the Constructors’ title.
“Today was a very good day for the whole team. The race itself was rather boring. My Medium tyre had just as much graining as the Soft one, if not more, but after my pit-stop I managed to get past both Ferraris and I was able to control the race, brining the car home and certifying the third place in the Constructors’ Championship, which is really important”.
"I congratulate everyone in the team. It was a difficult year, but we got through it together. You just need to take a look at the races we have done after the summer to see that, as soon as the glitches that we had earlier in the season disappeared, we were always in the Top 7. From the day I joined McLaren I have felt very comfortable in this team and I think that I have grown as a driver, improving race by race. I say thank you to Zak Brown for trusting in me back in the day and to the entire team, both to the people track-side and at the factory, for these two great years. It was a pleasure and I will cherish the memories”.
