Carlos Sainz, thirteenth at the 70th Anniversary GP following an issue in the pits

Silverstone, 9th August 2020
- Race: P13, 52 laps

  • Twelfth at the Starting Grid, Carlos Sainz passed Sebastian Vettel on hard tyres at the start to move up to eleventh.
  • The McLaren driver extended his first set of tyres until Lap 22, sticking to a solid race pace until he pitted for mediums. Unfortunately, he was delayed by an issue with a gun and he returned to the track on thirteenth place.
  • The Spaniard completed his second and final pit-stop in Lap 35, switching again to the hard compound to make it to the chequered flag. He was fourteenth following his pit-stop and thirteenth as he crossed the finish line.

QUOTES:
"Today was another disappointing day for us. We managed to get a good start and a very strong first stint, but unfortunately, we had an issue with a gun in the pits. The mistake undid all the work we had done before the pit-stop. It is a shame, because we could have scored a lot of points with the strategy we had and how we had managed the race until then. It seems we are still not perfect in the key parts of the race, so we must keep digging and pushing as a team to fix it".
