Carlos Sainz to start the Saudi Arabian GP from second row of the grid

Saturday, 18 March 2023
-    Free Practice 3: P10, 1:29.761, 16 laps
-    Qualifying: P5, 1:28.931, 24 laps

  • Carlos Sainz set the fifth fastest time overall in the Qualifying session of the Saudi Arabian GP, but he will start tomorrow from fourth place due to grid penalties.
  • The Ferrari race driver made it through Q1 (1:29.411) with a single set of Soft tyres and he set the fourth fastest time in Q2 (1:28.957), this time using a second set.
  • The Spaniard started Q3 on old tyres and save his last set for his final push, in which he set a 1:28.941 which was far from his maximum potential, but that nevertheless keeps him in the fight for tomorrow.

“Not the best of Qualy’s from my side to be honest. I struggled with the tyres into the first few corners and lost the time there. The rest of the lap felt good, but it wasn’t enough to make up for sector 1. My bad".

“However, the weekend is not over and we have the pace to fight for a step in the podium, so we’ll reset tonight and come back at it tomorrow in the race".
