- Carlos made it to Q3 at Monza, where he was one of the two cars that crossed the finish line before the chequered flag to go for a second flying lap.
- The McLaren driver moved away from the rest of the cars through the Lesmo curves and set a 1:20.455 lap that put him seventh in the standings.
- Earlier in the session, the Spaniard placed himself in a good position in the pack to set a 1:20.909 lap just before a red flag caused by an Alfa Romeo.
"We have scored a great result. Tomorrow we will start from P7, well aware that our car usually performs better in the race than in Qualifying. It is a very good result. We managed to keep it calm in the madness".
"If you get a tow you can gain 0.5 or 0.7 seconds in Monza, that’s why we always want to get one. But I wouldn’t have crossed the line on time hadn’t I moved away when I did. I decided to go for another lap. The team did a very good job and tomorrow we will start from a good position to fight for points".
