Saturday, 20 July 2024:
- Free Practice 3: P5, 1:16.639, 16 laps
- Qualifying: P4, 1:15.696, 26 laps
- Carlos Sainz was fourth in the Qualifying session of the Hungarian GP and will start from the second row of the grid. Track conditions were tricky as throughout the session there was an intermittent drizzle.
- Q1 started on a wet track, but it dried up quickly and Carlos seized the situation to set a 1:17.244 that allowed him to advance to the following round without using a second set of Soft tyres.
- In Q2, the Ferrari race driver repeated the same strategy and stopped the clock at 1:15.885, finishing fourth and advancing to Q3 on a single set of new tyres.
- This meant he had two sets of new Soft tyres for Q3, where he improved to 1:15.696 to qualify fourth, 469 thousandths of a second away from pole position.
- There were two red flags during the session: first in Q1 after Sergio Pérez crashed and later in Q3 when Yuki Tsunoda did the same.
QUOTES:
“We had a good Qualifying overall, with good and very solid laps every time I was on track, pushing our car to the limit. We've improved a bit this weekend, but looking at the timesheet I think today's P4 was the best result we could achieve. Tomorrow we need to be extremely focused the entire race because there could be opportunities and we need to make sure we are there to take them. Let’s race!".
