- Free Practice 3: P19, 2 laps
- Qualifying: P8, 1:54.477, 23 laps
- Carlos Sainz will start from seventh place in the Belgian GP, compromised by the temperature of his tyres in his final attempt in Q3.
- Qualifying was held under an intermittent rain, meaning that drivers had to stick to Intermediate tyres throughout the session.
- Carlos made it through Q1 (1:155.169) and Q2 (1:54.112) without any issues, even though they were tricky given that it was fundamental to stay out given the rapid improvement of the track.
- In Q3, the Spaniard couldn’t improve any further than 1:54.477 because his last set of Intermediate tyres didn’t get to the optimal temperature window. He qualified in eighth place, but he gains one position due to penalties.
QUOTES:
“I cannot be happy with the end result today because I was fast during the entire session and I didn’t extract the maximum of the last set of Q3. Immediately into turn 1 I felt I didn't have the same grip as I had during the previous runs and the entire lap was a struggle. I need to understand what I did different to have such low grip. About tomorrow, the race will be open and the goal will be to gain positions and fight at the top. It's difficult to make a prediction for the conditions we will find in the race, but I'm sure there will be opportunities.”
