A brake issue and floor damage leave Carlos Sainz out in Q1 at the Austrian GP

Saturday, 28 June 2025
- Free Practice 3: P15, 1:05.326, 21 laps
- Qualifying: P19, 1:05.582, 12 laps

  • Carlos Sainz fell in Q1 in the Austrian GP after fighting his car in every corner, as he suffered a brake issue from the start of the session, and he later picked up floor damage. Both things compromised his performance.
  • The Williams race driver started Qualifying with a 1:06.171 lap, which he then lowered to 1:05.899 and finally to 1:05.582 with four minutes still to the chequered flag.
  • His FW47 was unstable both under braking and in cornering, and he was not able to improve his lap time any further in his last try due to the many corrections he had to make with the steering wheel.

QUOTES:
“Overall, I think our performance has been encouraging despite the time sheet after FP2. We clearly had some issues putting a lap together on the Soft tyre, but on the Medium and Hard tyres I felt very competitive out there. Compared to other teams, we are struggling to maintain the grip through the lap on the Soft tyre. We will look into it closely tonight. Our race pace seems okay, so we’ll try to find answers for the softer compound and improve as the weekend goes by".

COMING UP:
