He wants to secure the fouth place of the Constructors’ Championship for Renault
Yas Island, 22th of November 2018.- Carlos Sainz approaches this weekend the final race of his fourth season as a Formula One driver. The event itself will take place in the futuristic Yas Marina Circuit, in the United Arab Emirates. It will also mark the ending of his tenure with Renault Sport Formula One Team, before moving on to McLaren Formula 1, with whom he will take part in the postseason testing on the 27th and 28th of November.
Carlos will have the chance to be behind the wheel of the McLaren MCL33 on Wednesday, 28th of November. It will be his first and only appearance on a Woking car in 2018, before moving on to the preparations for the next racing season with the British team.
On Thursday, the Spaniard spent some time with his engineers at Renault preparing for the Grand Prix ahead, which will take place in twilight conditions, with the subsequent changes in the conditions of the tarmac throughout the race. He also did the track-walk around the circuit, which presents new kerbs in turns 11, 13 and 20, plus new TechPro barriers. He also attended the questions of the media.
Tyre wise, Carlos will have two sets of Pirelli supersofts, four ultrasofts and seven hypersofts. He will have a set of ultrasofts less than his teammate, but one more of the hardest option available for this Grand Prix.
Carlos: "It will be quite a special one for me and the team, knowing the target of finishing fourth is nearly achieved. Hopefully we can celebrate on Sunday night and it will be a goodbye to the team for myself. It’s a great race here, with some overtaking opportunities, so I hope we can finish the season on a high. Abu Dhabi owes me one from last year!".
The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will begin tomorrow on Friday. The first Free Practice session will take place at 13:00 local time -10:00 Spanish time-. You can be up-to-date with Carlos on his social media channels and on his official website www.carlossainz.es.
