- Free Practice 1: P15, no time, 6 laps
- Free Practice 2: P10, 1:18.182, 20 laps
- Carlos Sainz finished tenth in the second practice session of the Hungarian GP, although his fastest lap was not representative because he encountered traffic.
- The Ferrari race driver focused his run plan in Free Practice 2 given that the rain and a spin at Turn 3 had heavily compromised his mileage in the morning session.
- In Free Practice 2, the Spaniard worked only with the Soft and the Medium compounds to save the Hard tyre, which he will have to use in Q1 following the new Qualifying format that comes into play this weekend.
- The grid was very tight, with the ten fastest cars within five-tenths of a second and 15 drivers within the same second.
QUOTES:
"It was a strange Friday: FP1 was affected by the rain and in FP2 we had to work taking into account the new format we will run this weekend. On the short run, I had quite a bit of traffic with the high fuel runners, while on the long run I felt a bit better even if we didn’t do too many laps. Overall there is room to improve ahead of tomorrow so we’ll get on with it straight away".
