Friday, 19 September 2025:
- Free Practice 1: P8, 1:43.859, 17 laps
- Free Practice 2: P11, 1:42.255, 24 laps
- Carlos Sainz spent most of Friday practice in Azerbaijan working with the Soft tyre, which this weekend is the fastest option available in the Pirelli tyre range, the C6, which was not used last year.
- In Free Practice 1, the Williams race driver led with a lengthy red flag that interrupted his run plan. He only used the Soft tyre.
- In Free Practice 2, the Spanish driver also tried out the Medium tyre in a long run and saw for himself that there is not a big performance difference between both tyres on a short run.
- Carlos is still unhappy about the behaviour of the Soft compound in Qualifying trim, but he is working together with his team in order to find a solution in time for tomorrow.
QUOTES:
“Interesting day for us today. FP1 was quite messy and we were caught out constantly by yellow flags. FP2 however was a better session and I’m happy with our long runs. We seem to struggle again with the softer compound so we need to keep looking for something more ahead of Qualifying. I think tomorrow the Soft and Medium tires are going to be extremely close, so we might see different approaches and this will spice things up in Qualifying".
