Carlos Sainz, happy but looking forward to improving after Friday at the Austrian GP

Friday, 27 June 2025:
- Free Practice 1: P8, 1:06.017, 33 laps
- Free Practice 2: P17, 1:05.814, 37 laps

  • Carlos Sainz could not make the most of his pace in his short run in Free Practice 2, but he remains positive after a Friday in which he fine-tuned the set-up of his car for the most crucial moments of the weekend.
  • The Williams race driver is convinced that there is a lot of margin for improvement: his fastest time in Free Practice 2 came in his second run on the Soft tyre and was only 77 thousandths of a second faster than his previous lap on the Hard compound.
  • The Spaniard worked across the three Pirelli tyre compounds: beyond running on Softs, he covered 22 laps on Mediums in Free Practice 1 and 24 laps on the Hard in Free Practice 2. He is confident in his race pace with the harder compounds, and tonight he will focus on optimising the usage of the Soft one.

QUOTES:
“Overall, I think our performance has been encouraging despite the time sheet after FP2. We clearly had some issues putting a lap together on the Soft tyre, but on the Medium and Hard tyres I felt very competitive out there. Compared to other teams, we are struggling to maintain the grip through the lap on the Soft tyre. We will look into it closely tonight. Our race pace seems okay, so we’ll try to find answers for the softer compound and improve as the weekend goes by”.
