Toro Rosso will change the power unit of the Spaniards's car
Spielberg, July 2nd 2016.- The second day of practice for the Austrian Grand Prix of Formula 1 turned out to be sunnier and warmer than yesterday, although quite eventful for Carlos Sainz. The Spaniard suffered technical issue on his Toro Rosso and had to stop his session early due to an electrical problem on his STR11. The team has decided to fit a brand new power unit as a precaution. Now mechanics work hard to have it ready in time for Qualifying, which will begin later today at 14:00 Spanish time.
With warmer conditions (air 26ºC, track 48ºC), the characteristics of the track changed quite a while but Carlos could only complete 11 laps on a single set of tyres before returning to the pits with the mentioned electrical failure. The Spaniard couldn't work as usual neither get to know the true potential of his car on today's weather conditions, which are expected to remain stable for the Qualifying session. Q3 has become a tougher goal for Carlos.
Now, mechanics are working hard to replace the power unit of the STR11. They have less than two hours, as this is the time between Free Practice 3 and the start of Qualifying. Carlos remains cautious and realistic as he talks of his chances. "It's going to be very hard to make it to Q3 today. I could only use a single set of tyres in FP3 and today the track conditions are very different to yesterday. Now the team is working against the clock, but if we make it to Qualifying it will be very tight".
