The Spaniard will study the latest details of the STR11 before its debut, which will be on February 22nd
Carlos Sainz will travel to Toro Rosso's factory in Faenza in the upcoming days for a series of meetings to prepare the new Formula One season, Franz Tost has confirmed. These reunions will be focused on the technical aspects of the new STR11 as well as on the features of the Ferrari Power Unit. It will be a perfect opportunity to catch up with the engineers before the Barcelona Test Days, which will begin on February 22nd.
On the eve of his second season as a Formula 1 driver, Sainz still has the confidence of his team managers. Franz Tost, responsible for the Faenza team, is convinced that the Spaniard has more potential than he showed in 2015, a debut year in which Carlos scored 18 points that placed him in the 15th place of the World Championship.
Tost believes Sainz would have scored better results had he not had a fragile car which forced him to retire in seven races, usually with problems related to the Renault V6 Turbo engine. This season Toro Rosso will use Ferrari engines, so the team boss is certain that reliability will not be a problem anymore.
"Most of the time he suffered with reliability issues that were the fault of the team, not his. Carlos had a very good season last year, showing a strong performance, which was especially clear if you look at the qualifying comparison between the two drivers", he said in an interview with F1i.com.
"I expect him to have a good 2016 and I just hope we can provide him with a reliable car, which allows him to show his potential. The team has to improve its performance and produce better race results than last year, as we have to step forward. Last year our main problems came from reliability and we must work on that for this season, no excuses!"
Carlos Sainz will be the first driver of Toro Rosso to debut the new STR11. He will be behind the wheel on February 22nd for the first winter test. He will also drive on the 24th.
