The Spaniard completed 90 laps in his second day in the car
Montmelo, 20 February 2019.- Carlos Sainz completed 90 laps in the third day of preseason testing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, the second and last appearance of the Spaniard driver in the McLaren MCL34 in the first week of winter practice.
Carlos continued the development and set-up work performed in the two first days, digging on the preparation of his new car, which has already gone beyond the 300-lap mark since the beginning of the week. The Spaniard was able to complete almost the entire scheduled program.
The afternoon session was a productive one for Carlos and his team, as they were able to embark themselves in a race simulation that helped to further understand the car and tyre management. They managed to accomplish the desired distance in three different runs, in which the car ran in the most conservative spectrum of the 2019 Pirelli tyre range.
"Today was a bit more of a challenging day as we made a few changes on the car overnight which delayed our start while we finished preparing everything".
"However, we still managed to nearly complete a race distance and we’ve already seen the benefits from that in the information we’ve gathered".
"We picked up valuable data from the longer runs especially, and now we hope we can continue with some smooth running with Lando tomorrow on the final day".
The first week of winter testing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will conclude tomorrow. Carlos will be in the paddock to keep an eye on his team as the work progresses, although it will be his teammate Lando Norris who will take the wheel. Carlos will be back in action next week, as preseason practice will resume on the 26th of February and go on until the 1st of March.
