Good feelings in Montmelo and ready to fight tomorrow for Q3
Barcelona, May 13th 2016.- Carlos Sainz finished in an interesting fifth place in the second free practice session of the Spanish Grand Prix of Formula 1. Although this result can make one feel optimistic, it's better to stay prudent as the Starting Grid won't be defined until tomorrow's Qualifying.
Carlos didn't suffer any problems at all and in fact he was one of the fastest drivers in the last session. He did 39 laps on both tyre compounds, one being the hard and the other one the soft. He didn't test the medium one, which he had previously races earlier in the morning.
Carlos' best time came when he moved to the soft compound for the first time, a compound in which he did his first long run of the day (10 timed laps between 1'29 and 1'31). Later on he went back to the hard tyre to set another 15 fast laps, most of them between 1'29 and 1'30.
Carlos' first impressions after stepping out of his STR11 were positive. "We had a really good Friday and we’ve started my home Grand Prix weekend well. I’m happy with today and I feel very comfortable in the car, but we need to keep working like we are because tomorrow it will all be much tighter than what it looks like today. It feels like we can have a strong weekend here in Barcelona and I’m really looking forward to it!".
"Fridays are not useful to make up illusions, so we are very cautious about today's P5. Each car is running on different fuel loads, so we'll only know the truth tomorrow. Anyway, it's nice to see myself in P5 and the car's been given me good sensations. Tomorrow there is going to be a pretty tight fight to make it to Q3, that's our goal", he said.
