Eighth place for Carlos Sainz in Free Practice 2 for the Chinese GP

32 laps on soft and supersoft tyres

Shanghai, April 15th 2016.- Carlos Sainz confirmed today the good feelings he had ahead of the Chinese Grand Prix. The Spaniard finished eighth in the second Free Practice session of the event.

Scuderia Toro Rosso's driver work program consisted of short and long runs using both the Soft and the Supersoft compound. He clocked 32 laps around the 5.451 meters-long track, covering more than half the distance of Sunday's race. He started the afternoon by going for a quick lap on Supersofts, a 1'38''542 that was enough to hold on to eighth place until the end.

Later on, Carlos kept the softest compound for a longer run, just like his teammate Max Verstappen did. Afterwards he moved to the Soft tyres to do a race simulation while the other Toro Rosso car did the same on Mediums.

The Spaniard was the fourth fastest driver on the Speed-Trap with a Top Speed of 338,8 kilometres/hour. This morning he was slower due to set-up reasons. This extra speed will help him on Sunday when he has to fight for position on the giant back straight, the longest one of the calendar, although in counterpart he loses a bit of time in the second (twisty) sector.

These were Carlos' initial reactions after stepping out of the STR11:

"Today was another smooth Friday for us. We had no issues on the car, which meant that we could complete all our program. FP1 was quite an interrupted session because of the red flags, but this afternoon’s FP2 was very good and I end the day happy. I think it’s going to be a challenging Grand Prix for everyone and I’m looking forward to the rest of the weekend, especially to qualifying which is back to the old format", he said.

Action will resume at the Shanghai International Circuit tomorrow at 06:00 CET –12:00 local time– with Free Practice 3.
