Carlos Sainz, with technical issues in Free Practice 1 at Canadian GP

His car stopped on the track during the installation lap

Montreal, June 9th 2017.- The Canadian Grand Prix didn’t start in the way Carlos Sainz hoped for, as a mechanical issue prevented the Spaniard of Scuderia Toro Rosso from completing the program he had prepared together with his engineers for the first practice session at the Gilles Villeneuve.

During his installation lap, Carlos’ car stopped on the track after the hairpin with white smoke coming out. After a brief conversation with the engineers over the radio and realizing that it was impossible to continue, the driver jumped out of the car and returned to the paddock to follow the remaining part of the session from the Pit-Wall.

The nature of the circuit Gilles Villeneuve, an urban track with difficult access to the pit area, made it impossible for the crane to deliver the STR12 before the end of practice. As soon as it arrives, the mechanics will study it to improve its reliability ahead of the following session.

Cars will hit the track once again this afternoon at 14:00 local time, 20:00 Spanish time, with Free Practice 2. As always, we will follow Carlos closely via his website www.carlosainz.es and our Twitter account @carlossainz55.
