He has equaled the points he scored in the 2015 season and he keeps his motivation intact
Spielberg, June 28th 2016.- Carlos Sainz and Scuderia Toro Rosso flight right to Europe's heart to race at the Red Bull Ring, home to the Austrian Grand Prix of Formula 1. The competition returns to the continent after two races overseas, first in Canada and later in Azerbaijan.
Carlos is ready to face the first of the four races scheduled for the upcoming five weeks. The first round of this 'tour de force' is held at the home of Red Bull, the Red Bull Ring, a classic track shortened in the nineties composed by four kilometers and only nine turns. The lap is very short, it's less than 70 seconds, and that makes Qualifying an intense fight tight to the millisecond.
The Spaniard has already equaled in the last eight races the 18 points he score in his first season in Formula 1, 2015. Now his goal is to fight back to the Top 10 at Spielberg after his retirement in Baku, where he suffered a mechanical issue in the rear-end suspension of his STR11. That issue stopped a three-race streak in the points. Now his aim is to retake that positive trend.
Pirelli has brought to Austria three tyre compounds: the soft, the supersoft and the ultrasoft. Carlos has chosen together with his team two sets of the yellow option, four of the red one and seven of the purple one, which promises to be the Qualifying compound.
These are Carlos' thoughts before the event.
"When we went to Canada and Baku, we already knew these were going to be tough weekends for us, but we still managed to score points in the first one and we were within the Top 10 in the second one until a mechanical issue forced us to retire. We now travel to Austria keeping the same spirit. We're all together, let's put our heads down and recover the point-streak we were on until the last Grand Prix.
"I always look forward to racing at the Red Bull Ring; it's a track I enjoy. The track has been fully resurfaced this year, so we will need to reset our references. I'd call it our second home Grand Prix because this is Red Bull's land! And right after this one, we'll go to Silverstone, my favorite circuit in the calendar".
The Austrian Grand Prix will commence on Friday, July 1st, with the first Free Practice session of the event. It will start at 10:00 Spanish time. We will follow it live via www.carlosainz.es and our Twitter account @carlosainzinfo.
