Carlos Sainz to fight for a very tough Q3 spot in Hungarian GP

He set his best FP3 time on the first set of supersoft tyres

Mogyoród, July 23rd 2016.- Carlos Sainz finished on a quiet 16th position in the third free practice session, and that result suggests Qualifying will be tough for Toro Rosso, as his team mate Daniil Kvyat, who finished a couple spots behind Carlos, also struggled.

The Spaniard only ran on supersoft tyres, but didn't find the perfect lap as temperatures were warmer than yesterday (26ºC air, 44ºC track). On the first set, he was able to move up to eighth thanks to a 1'22"402. In the end, that was his best lap of the session despite the fact that, after doing 7 laps on used tyres, he pitted for new supersofts (6 laps) in the latter phase of the session.

It wasn't easy to get a proper lap straightaway from the pit exit, as Carlos explained after jumping out of his STR11: "We hope everything's going to change a bit for Qualifying, because we weren't that bad on that first set of tyres. On the second one we didn't improve while the rest did, that's why we are so far behind. We'll analyze what has happened with that second set of tyres so we can improve for Qualifying".

Carlos struggled especially in the third sector, where the hot asphalt was very harsh on the tyres. "Temperatures were higher than yesterday. It's warmer and that doesn't suit us very well, so we'll have to suffer, but we'll try our best to improve the current situation".

Qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix will begin at 14:00 Spanish time. We will follow it live via www.carlosainz.es and our Twitter account @carlosainzinfo.
