Carlos Sainz at the Spanish GP: "We will try new bits on the car tomorrow"

The Spaniard of McLaren is set to race with a special helmet and race boots this weekend

Montmelo, May 9th 2019.- Carlos Sainz is set to contest this weekend in the fifth race of the season, the most special one for him, the Spanish Grand Prix. The Spaniard of McLaren is already preparing for the event together with his engineer as he strives to carry on the momentum of the team.

The race of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is also the first one of the European leg of the calendar, and McLaren has prepared a big aerodynamic package to try and optimize the performance and balance of the MCL34.

To celebrate his home Grand Prix together with his fans, Carlos has designed a special helmet, changing his colour scheme to adopt a new chrome finish with a papaya orange touch. He will also be using brand new race boots.

Tyres available for the weekend are the C1, the C2 and the C3, which will be identified as the hard, the medium and the soft compounds. Carlos will have three sets of the hard option, two of the medium one and eight of the softest.

"I would like McLaren to be the fourth team in the grid this weekend, what would mean that we finish on seventh and eighth both in Qualifying and the race itself, although we know that it is going to be a real challenge because everyone will be bringing upgrades. It will be really interesting to see where everyone is. We will fight to be as high as possible".

The Spanish GP will start on Friday with the two first Free Practice sessions, which will be held at 11:00 and 15:00 local time. Fans will be free to move around the different grandstands of the circuit. The Grada CS55 will open its doors. For just 99 euros, it gives fans the opportunity to enjoy three days of racing and receive a special bundle to make the experience even more special.
