Carlos Sainz, sixteenth in Free Practice 1 at the Italian GP

Testing time for Scuderia Toro Rosso

Monza, September 2nd 2016.- Carlos Sainz finished sixteenth in the first free practice session for the Italian Grand Prix, with a personal best of 1’25”973 that was 3”014 slower than leader’s Nico Rosberg time.

Conditions were warm as the day begun, with temperatures rising to 27 and 35 degrees in the air and the track-surface respectively. Carlos was among the first drivers to hit the track and he tested three tyre compounds, going first for the mediums before moving to the experimental softs and the official softs. Still, the most important work that was going on was related to the bits and pieces of his car and its set-up, which was different than his teammate’s in order to make valid comparisons, as scheduled by the team.

Carlos did four laps on medium tyres, completing two stints of two laps on them. He later equipped the experimental soft tyre developed by Pirelli, on which he did a seven-lap run before using it again for two more laps in further checks.

Finally, he went for the official soft compound to do another seven-lap run and conclude the 20 laps he’s done so far this weekend at the Autodromo Nazionale. As a matter of fact, it is interesting to notice the Speed-Trap chart: between the fastest car (a Mercedes, 356 kilometers/hour) and the slowest (a Toro Rosso, 324), there is a 32 kilometer/hour difference. It's significant information considering this is the fastest track in the Championship.

Free Practice 2 for the Italian Gran Prix will begin at 14:00 Spanish time. We will follow it live via and our Twitter account @carlosainzinfo.
