Carlos Sainz shines with a seventh place at the United States: "Good result, but I don’t understand the penalty"

  • Carlos fought back from the eleventh place of the grid to finish the race in sixth, scoring six important points.
  • The Spaniard did a great start and passed three corners going into Turn 1. After going wide and letting Ocon by, he overtook him into Turn 6.
  • The Stewards imposed a controversial five-second penalty on him, saying that he gained advantage while going beyond the limits of the track.
  • Thanks to his good race pace, he recovered the seventh place and scored an important result for Renault at this stage of the season.

"Goal achieved. We did a great, great start, passing three cars through the outside line and then Ocon in Turn 6. I don’t understand the penalty, because I let him by after Turn 1, I passed him afterwards".

"This race gives a massive boost to the team. It is a key result in the fight for the fourth place in the Constructors’ title. It is just what we needed. If we do things well in the remaining races, we can get this fourth place, which for the team is like gold".

"Now we will travel to Mexico, a circuit that should suit us reasonably well. We will fight again for points. It shouldn’t be like in Suzuka or Spa-Francorchamps, it should be more similar to Austin… So I hope we can enjoy another good weekend".
