Best times with every tyre compound
There are just 14 days left before the lights go out in Melbourne's Albert Park for the start of the Australian Grand Prix, the first race of the 2016 Formula 1 Season. Until then, it’s time to review what happened during the eight productive days of pre-season testing in Barcelona for Carlos Sainz and his new Toro Rosso STR11, which showed a strong reliability from the first day of running.
Carlos managed to complete 515 laps during the four days he was behind the wheel, as well as 2.387 km of intensive testing programme with a car which has been built in just three months, and with the team having worked around the clock in order to adapt the whole new Ferrari engine package to the new chassis.
The lap times, which will be crucial in Melbourne, are not significant in pre-season testing. Every team can choose a different set-up for every stint, therefore times cannot be compared between different cars. Nevertheless, and just for information purposes, these are Carlos’ best times with every set of tyres:
· Ultra-soft: 1’23’134- 2nd best time of the day and 5th best of pre-season testing
· Super-soft: 1’23’471
· Soft: 1’23’901
· Medium: 1’24’’701
· Hard: not used
