Carlos Sainz, ready for the Austrian GP: “We improve race by race”

The Renault driver will aim for points at the Red Bull Ring

Spielberg, June 28th 2018.- Carlos Sainz will compete this weekend in the ninth Grand Prix of the Formula 1 season, the Austrian GP, which will take place at the iconic Red Bull Ring.

The Alpine race is a back-to-back event for the sport, which left the Paul Ricard four days ago, where Carlos finished eighth and put together a perfect race despite losing two places in the end due to a technical issue.

Renault Sport Formula One Team continues its progression and now is fourth in the Constructor’s Championship with a 22-points edge over its competitors. For the Austrian Grand Prix, the team will fit a new and lighter cooler system for the MGU-K.

Carlos is having his best ever start to a season since his arrival to Formula One. He hasn’t missed a single Q3 and has scored points in seven of the last eight races. In Spielberg, his goal is to carry on that good momentum. It will be his fourth race in Austria, where he finished eighth in the 2016 event.

Tyres available for the weekend are the soft, the supersoft and the ultrasoft, the same tyre choice as in France. Carlos will have two sets of the yellow one, one of the red and then of the purple.

"It is an interesting weekend in a beautiful place. It is one of my favourite races because it is right in the middle of the forest. We come from a great weekend at the Paul Ricard and now we will race in another track that is very demanding, short but with many types of corners. The asphalt is very smooth and it has a lot of grip. It will be a challenge, but it is one of those tracks where I really enjoy driving".

"I think we should be optimistic and keep working in the same direction to try and score more points for the Constructors’ Championship in every race. The team seems to improve race by race. It looks like tomorrow it could rain, but good weather is forecasted for Saturday and Sunday".
