- Race: P5, 58 laps
- Carlos Sainz recovered ten positions at the Turkish GP to finish in a brilliant fifth place. Even though the track was very slippery and it was difficult to interpretate, the Spaniard of McLaren dealt with it with no mistakes.
- Carlos passed six cars at the start and the opening lap and fought wheel to wheel with his main competitors to score 10 points, move up to P7 in the Drivers’ Championship and keep McLaren in the fight for P3 in the Constructors’.
"Today we did a great race. On Saturday we didn’t manage to make the tyres work, but today I found a couple things on my laps to the grid that enabled me to keep them at the right temperature. I gained a lot of confidence and I was able to recover. I gained six spots in the start and the first lap, and then overtook Stroll, Albon, Giovinazzi and Ricciardo to clinch this fifth place, which tastes really good".
"We made the most of the day, because both Racing Points started in the Top 3 and the Renaults were also ahead of us at the Starting Grid. This result keeps us in the fight for P3 in the Championship. I have always felt comfortable in the rain and today was no exception. We almost finished fourth, but in the final 10 laps my front right tyre was at the limit and I had to be very cautious when pushing, because I didn’t want to repeat what happened in Silverstone. In the end, we scored a fantastic result. I say thanks to the whole team and now we move on to Bahrain".
