- With a double overtaking manoeuvre through the outside at Turn 3 in the opening lap and a precise race-strategy, Carlos fought back from ninth to sixth at the Monaco GP.
- The McLaren driver stayed on track during the Safety-Car period, increasing his pace steadily to perform an overcut over Ricciardo and Magnussen to secure himself the final result.
- The 8 points scored today enable the Spaniard to move up to seventh in the Drivers' World Championship, placing him as the first driver behind the dominant teams.
"I am very happy with this sixth place, because it was hard fought. We started our fight yesterday when we put a great lap in the Qualifying session and we fought again today. I passed both Toro Rossos through the outside at Turn 3 in Lap 1; first Albon, racing side by side with him after Turn 1, and then Kvyat. It was risky, but no doubt it payed off!".
"When I saw other cars pitting under the Safety-Car, I pushed to create some space. I am really proud of this result. We scored very important points in a track that didn’t suit us too much. We must keep on working to improve".
