Carlos Sainz finishes fourth in a difficult Hungarian GP

Sunday, 31 July 2022
-    Race: P4, 70 laps

  • The autumn-like temperatures of the Hungarian GP played against Ferrari, who was not able to repeat the solid race pace of Friday practice.
  • Carlos started from second place on the Medium tyre and pitted one lap later than race leader George Russell, but dropped to third behind his teammate Charles Leclerc, who pitted later.
  • The Spaniard of Ferrari led the race for a few laps during his second stint, but the lack of pace due to the low temperatures meant he dropped to fifth after his second pit-stop.
  • Carlos recovered two places when Hamilton and Leclerc, but the British driver of Mercedes ousted him from the podium in the closing stages of the Grand Prix.

QUOTES:
"Today was a tough day for the whole team. We expected to have a strong pace for the race but it’s clear that with these lower temperatures and track conditions we were simply not fast enough to fight".

"There are some things to look at and learn from today. We will regroup, analyze and come back stronger after the summer break".
