Mogyorod, 19th of July of 2020:
- Race: P10, 69 laps
- Ninth at the Starting Grid, Carlos Sainz started the Hungarian GP on intermediate tyres since the track was still wet from the morning rain.
- The McLaren driver jumped to eighth at the start. The track dried-up very quickly and he pitted for mediums in Lap 4, but he lost several seconds in the pits since his release was delayed by six seconds due to the on-going traffic. He was twelfth following that stop.
- The Spaniard passed Romain Grosjean and pitted again in Lap 41, when he was sixth. He put hard tyres and joined the track in eleventh place.
- In Lap 61, he passed the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc to move up to tenth and score a point.
"Today we did everything we could. The start was great, but there was traffic in the Pit-Lane during my first pit-stop and my mechanics had to wait before releasing me. That cost me several places and recovering from that was difficult, because it is hard to overtake at the Hungaroring. In the end we managed to get back into the points, so we can be happy about that. Now we have one week to recharge batteries and keep working on the car before the next round in the Championship, which is Silverstone".
