Carlos Sainz, impeccable sixth place at the French GP

  • Controlled and mistake-free race from Carlos Sainz, who passed his teammate at the start to move up to sixth and then measured his pace to nurture the tyres.
  • The Spaniard matched the lap-times his team asked of him throughout the race to optimize his performance.
  • The McLaren driver attacked a Red Bull in the opening laps and then finished the race as the first car behind the leading teams, strengthening himself in the seventh place of the Drivers' Championship.

"Great race! I did a very good start, first passing Lando through the outside line, then I almost overtook Verstappen’s Red Bull. Anyway, we managed to accomplish our goal, which was to gain position. There wasn’t much trouble later; I was focused on controlling my pace, matching the lap-times that I was asked by the team. A very well-deserved sixth place after so much work".

"When the team asked me to push a bit more, I pushed. Our pace was very good, but we were saving tyres. For the very first time this year, we were the fourth fastest car both in Qualifying and in the race itself, which means a step forward. I think we are heading in the right direction".
