- Race: P7, 63 laps
- Carlos Sainz finished seventh in the Emilia Romagna GP, where overtaking was extremely difficult. The Safety-Car created a sprint-race in the last few laps of the event.
- Tenth at the Starting Grid, the Spaniard passed his teammate on track to move up to ninth and gained another spot to head into the first pit-stop window in eighth place.
- The McLaren driver lost a position during the pit-stops, but recovered two before seeing the chequered flag, including a remarkable evasive manoeuvre to avoid crashing into Albon, who had spun.
"A well-managed and well-executed race for the team. We moved up three positions, the pit-stops were good and we stayed out of trouble. From the very first lap I could feel that we had the speed. When I passed Lando I could take the fight to our rivals. Our pace was good, but overtaking was really difficult at this track".
"The Safety-Car stayed out on track a little longer than we would have liked, because maybe we could have moved further up on the standings had we had more laps. I had a moment with Albon, who spun right in front of me during the restart. I stamped on the brakes to avoid him and we nearly touched".
"In the end we managed to finish with both cars in the points and we keep the fight for the Championship, but we need to keep improving because it keeps getting tighter and tighter. We carry on”.
