- Race: P5, 60 laps
- Carlos Sainz finished the Eifel GP in fifth place, scoring 10 important points that keep McLaren in the fight for the third place of the Constructors’ Championship.
- The Spaniard started with a 29-lap run on soft tyres from the tenth slot of the grid, which meant he was able to extend the first part of the race more than some of his rivals did.
- Seventh after the first round of pit-stops, he gained another two positions with the retirement of his teammate Norris and Leclerc’s strategy, which was different to Carlos’.
- The Safety-Car came out on Lap 45, but Carlos held on to fifth place despite pitting for a set of soft tyres.
"We finished in fifth place and scored 10 points that are very important for the Championship. I am happy with the result, because today we had understeer and more tyre degradation than the other cars. I didn’t feel comfortable in the car, although we were consistent and we seized the opportunities. I hope the 60 laps of data that I gathered today allow us to get together in the factory and find out the reasons why the last upgrades are not giving us the performance and the feeling we were expecting from them, because our competitors are closing in. I am sorry for Lando, it looks like he had the same issue as in Spa. We move on".
