A tear-off compromises Carlos Sainz at the Canadian GP

  • A tear-off from another driver got stuck in the air duct of Carlos’ front left brake after the start, forcing him to pit in Lap 3 to prevent the brakes from overheating.
  • The McLaren driver went on to complete 67 laps on a single set of hard tyres, moving up the grid up to ninth.
  • In the closing stages of the race, his tyres were so worn-out that it costed him two places, finishing the race in eleventh.

"A tear-off was obstructing the cooling duct of my brakes, so we had to pit. Our entire race was then compromised, since the stint we had to perform was just too long".

"It annoys me, but today I was hoping to fight for something better than ninth. Our intention was to start with a long stint and then switch to the hard compound, on which we knew we were really fast. But being forced to put it that early compromised our final result".
